THIS WAS AN AMAZING WEEK OF COLLABORATION AND ANALYZING QUESTIONS WE HAVE ABOUT COMMUNITIES THAT MAKE UP CANADIAN IDENTITY.

STUDENTS:   online tasks and other assigned tasks have been provided with in-class time and needs to be 
worked on or completed at home.  Please ensure that tasks are completed by the assigned due date.

DANCE-A-THON is this Friday.  Bring in your pledge envelopes and remember to dress for success   :o)

SOCIAL STUDIES: within your SS wiki your group is to develop a series of inquiry questions that will help you develop an understanding of your community and how it helped to shape Canadian Identity today.  
1.  Develop an individual inquiry question (past due)
2.  Carefully select an appropriate website to help you research your topic (past due)
3.  Start to research your questions that you developed as a group (past due)

SCIENCE:  Students have been reorganized into their Build Teams and started brainstorming concept green home ideas.  Continue over the next few days to build upon your ideas, connecting back to your research within the wiki and collecting materials.  Build Day will be pushed up earlier in the week.  Bring in all supplies needed for your build on Monday February 2nd.

BUSINESS DAY:

*  Community Walk Due Monday
*  Research the various roles/responsibility and qualities associated with the different roles for Business Day

MEDIA LITERACY/HEALTH: Students have been assigned to small groups to research a focus area in Healthy Eating.  Follow the "Big Idea" and generate 2-3 inquiry questions to research on the topic.  You will be given a few days to collaborate online.  Next week, students will be provided a copy of their online work to them independently design an informative poster. (The poster will be presented to the class later in the week)

SWIM FORMS: PAST DUE
- forms were handed out in December please return on Monday

ARTIST (GRAPHIC COMIC WORKSHOP) $23 due Friday Feb 6
The students in Room 301 and 308 will be participating in a 5-day Graphic Comic workshop from February 23, 25, 27, March 2-3, hosted by illustrator Martha Newbigging.  Martha is a published illustrator and a teacher who will be bringing her expertise to the students.  The students will be engaged in an interactive workshop where they will be learning about the elements of creating an effective graphic comic through narrative writing.  At the end of the workshop each student will complete a two-page graphic comic that will be showcased to the class. The cost of the 5-day long workshop is $23 dollars, which includes instruction from Martha and all art supplies.   Please have funds in by Friday February 6th, 2015.

The Stop Program visited our class today to discuss and analyze issues around poverty in Toronto and how we as a society can help curb the issue of poverty in our city.  We played the "Game of Life" and grading ideas to end hunger.

Data Management Bowling Project: Create a bar graph, respond to guiding questions, complete data calculation and justify why you would use one calculation to analyze the date for the class Room 301 total scores.  Include a title, label your x-axis and y-axis and include a legend if appropriate.  Consider the increments along the y-axis that would best support your data set.
Complete the analysis questions #1 for your class Room 301 total scores. 

Business Day:  Complete the Attitude Survey handed out in class today.  Then, complete the online attitude survey.

Extended French Forms were sent home before the holidays.  The due date is the end of the month.  Please submit to the office as they are date-stamped.

Over the next few weeks, flyers will be sent home from various middle schools as your child will transition from Grade 6 to Grade 7.  It is important that your child share this information with you so that you have the opportunity to visit schools, attend information nights and connect with the school that will best support your child's continued learning.

WOW what an exciting first week of school, a trip to see the Leafs practice, Scientist in the School and an Author Visit from  David Carroll (Ultra).  We worked on transitioning more effectively and working collaboratively in teams.
